Hybrid or electric: start with your daily routine
Mileage matters, but your access to charging matters just as much. Three questions help frame the comparison.
Can you charge regularly?
Write down where the car parks overnight and during the day. A parking space with suitable charging simplifies electric ownership. Without regular access, a conventional hybrid may be easier: it uses petrol and recovers some energy during braking. A plug-in hybrid requires a different routine because its electric benefit depends on charging.
Which journey is most demanding?
Do not choose only for the commute. Consider family trips, luggage and distances between cities. Check chargers along those routes and plan an alternative. Laboratory range helps comparisons; it does not guarantee motorway driving distance.
Compare equivalent cars
Compare similar trims and equipment. Add genuinely necessary items to the advertised price: options, delivery and any charging installation. Request an itemised quote and test-drive the car. The right powertrain is one whose requirements fit your life.
